Meet the Instruments: The Brass Family

The Brass Family includes the trumpet, French horn, trombone, and tuba. A sound is made by pressing your lips together and blowing to make a buzzing sound in the mouthpiece. The trumpet, French horn, and tuba have valves that are pressed to change the notes. The trombone has a slide that moves in and out to change notes. The brass sit in the back row of the orchestra because they are the loudest and can be heard from far away. These instruments are typically made of brass but could also have some silver or gold to enhance the sound. Brass instruments are used in orchestra, wind ensemble, and jazz music.
