Years Lived: 1857-1934
Period of Composing: Romantic

Edward Elgar was an English composer from the late Romantic era. His most famous piece is one you have probably heard before—Pomp and Circumstance— which is played at most graduation ceremonies! A few of his other famous works include Enigma Variations, which premiered in June of 1899 and is the piece that arguably made him famous, and his cello concerto, which is widely performed all over the world.

Elgar was the son of an organist, but his main instruments were violin and bassoon.  Elgar never actually took formal composition lessons but still composed over 200 works!
